Executive jobs will strengthen in 2009

The executive jobs market is expected to improve in a number of industries, a new report has predicted.

According to the Association of Executive Search Consultants (AESC), there will be more vacancies in healthcare, government, natural resources and pharmaceuticals.

The organisation has said that while overall recruitment will be negative, positive growth will be seen in the non-profit (52 per cent), education (48 per cent), professional services (39 per cent) and information technology (31 per cent) industries.

AESC president Peter Felix says the association's members see several bright spots for executive hiring in 2009.

"Other sectors will begin to step up their executive hiring as the current uncertainty dissipates and greater optimism begins to work its way into boardrooms," he told Recruiter.

Despite this, unemployment is on the way up. National Statistics from December revealed the jobless total is now heading toward three million.
