Banker tops gay-friendly employment poll

Lloyds TSB has topped charity Stonewall's Top Employers 2009 list.

The banker finished ahead of Hampshire Constabulary and Brighton & Hove City Council after being awarded most improved employer back in 2007.

Chief executive of Stonewall, Ben Summerskill said it was the charity's most competitive index ever.

"The Index is a powerful tool used by Britain's 1.7 million gay employees and 150,000 gay university students to decide where to take their talent and skills."

Eric Daniels, global chief executive of Lloyds TSB said the company's introduction of a sexual orientation strategy had helped improved its work culture.

"Sexual orientation has been a key diversity priority for Lloyds TSB for a number of years and this accolade is testament to our progress and commitment to this agenda," he noted.

However, according to Stonewall more than half of gay employees were still not 'out' in their workplace.
