Professional qualifications worth 152,000
09/12/2008
Professional qualifications are worth about £152,000 over a life-time of employment, the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) has claimed.
It found having a professional qualification gave workers a nine per cent greater chance of being employed and they would also be 37 per cent better paid.
The report was jointly commissioned by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.
It gives "clear objective evidence that professionalism pays, both for employees and companies," says CMI chief executive, Ruth Spellman.
"It is now official," she went on, "there is a return on investment if you develop as a professional".
Ms Spellman also noted the vital role played by managers with professional leadership skills.
The first qualification on the road to employment is often a degree, although most students will need to take government loans to cover its cost.
