Legal firms damaging talent pool

13/10/2008

City legal firms have been accused of damaging their own talent pool, by being inflexible in their working practices.

A report to be published tomorrow is critical of the long hours and work culture it claims are prevalent in legal firms, the Times has reported.

According to City law firm Addleshaw Goddard, who conducted the research, firms are suspicious of home working practices.

The report will recommend improved teamworking, better communication and a new approach to flexible working hours.

It will express concerns that global financial difficulties could force firms to be more strict on workers in legal jobs and their working practices.

Home working is increasingly popular thanks to improved broadband access and portable communication tools.

However, Mayor of London Boris Johnson has claimed working from home goes against human nature.

He said recently: "Our species yearns for the office, and the job of government is to help it get there."
