New technology increasing employee checks

09/10/2008

New technology is increasing the ability of employers to screen potential employees.

According to one company that specialises in the process, the techniques are becoming more commonplace.

Simon Pearson, director of client screening for Datanomic, said the "sophisticated and very powerful data preparation" and "extremely deep software algorithms" of modern technology are what "has made screening easy".

This was, he said because "technology has made it far easier to systematically trawl through large volumes of data".

Separate research by pre-employment specialist Powerchex, revealed Britons were most likely to lie or exaggerate on their CV.

It said ten per cent of all CVs have a major falsehood in stated employment dates and non-graduates' CVs were 20 per cent more likely to contain falsified data.

The most common area in which applicants embellished on their details was their qualifications – 49 per cent were found to be inaccurate.

Employee checks or Enterprise Screening is already commonplace in the application process for financial and legal jobs.
