More top companies now report on workers' health
08/10/2008
More leading companies now produce public reports on the health of their employees, a poll has revealed.
According to employers' group Business in the Community (BITC), 81 per cent of FTSE 100 firms report on health, up from 68 per cent in 2007.
BITC runs the Business Action on Health Campaign. It has said it wants 75 per cent of all top companies to measure and report on workers' health.
"Health and wellbeing needs to be an integral part of business strategy," said chief executive Steven Howard.
The organisation hopes it can "help companies get a better understanding of how to promote health and wellbeing in their organisations, to benefit their employees and their business".
In March, Dame Carol Black made a number of recommendations on health in the workplace.
In her report to government she advised: "It remains critically important to improve health at work and to enable workers with health problems to stay at work."
