Volunteering and work experience 'can boost a CV'

Carrying out volunteer work or work experience is an excellent way to boost your CV and can lead to employment, a recruitment agency has claimed.
Steven Kirkpatrick, managing director of Adecco Retail, was advising unemployed people on how go find work.
Volunteer work and work experience were a sure way of showing an employer that you are willing to "get back on the career ladder and demonstrates that you have the skills and dedication needed to succeed," he said.
He went on to say: "While volunteering is very worthy, you should also be clear to plan what you want to get out of it set some specific goals that will help you boost your job prospects at the end of it. Work experience can also lead to long-term placements."
The number of out of work people in the UK rose by 81,000 between May and July 2008 to 1.72 million, according to figures published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) on September 17th 2008.
In addition, 138,000 people were made redundant in the three months to July, up from 28,000 in the three weeks to April.
