Workers more worried about job losses
25/07/2008
Workers are increasingly worried about job losses, according to the Employee Advisory Resource (EAR), onrec.com has reported.
It said there has been a 27 per cent increase in redundancy related calls, compared with a similar period last year.
"In light of the issues raised by callers to the EAR helplines this month, it's clear that workers are feeling pressured and stress as fears over the credit crunch grip them," according to Alan King, managing director.
Mr King recommended companies stay in touch with their workers' organisations "and respond to any queries or concerns that employees have regarding these issues".
The EAR also found calls of a more personal nature had increased, suggesting workers are more stressed. It revealed calls on personal relationships, including family, marital and sexual issues, have increased by eight per cent.
UK unemployment is rising, although the employment rate remained unchanged at 74.9 per cent, according to national statistics.
