Big businesses are sticking to their green promises despite economic woes, eco-advisor The Carbon Trust has revealed.
It noted they have refused to let the issue drop and are pushing ahead with initiatives to save energy.
Delvin Lane, head of client engagements, said: "Cutting carbon and cutting energy costs is now really the core priority for all UK businesses it's not just a side issue anymore."
He observed people were often still unaware how easy it is to save money by implementing simple energy saving procedures.
"People don't realise that you can save up to 20 per cent of your energy costs just by taking cost-effective measures, such as turning the lights off, or turning off your monitors instead of putting them on standby," he said.
Currently, businesses are wasting £7 million each day because of poor energy efficiency.
The government has pledged support for more sustainable development, previous UK prime minister, Tony Blair announced it wanted to cut carbon emissions from its office-based estate by 30 per cent by 2020.
