Law Society escapes further fine
25/06/2008
The Law Society has escaped a further fine following an improvement in its performance.
Its complaints handling sections, The Legal Complaints Service (LSC) and the Solicitor's Regulatory Arm (SRA), were set 13 targets to meet relating to timeliness, quality and use of resources.
The organisation was criticised for not applying the society's Improvement Plan in dealing with complaints, however the Legal Services Complaints Commissioner, Zahida Manzoor, has decide not to penalise them.
She said: "Whilst I would have liked to have announced that the LSC and SRA have met all the targets I set I acknowledge that improvements have been made in most areas."
Ms Manzoor previously fined the Law Society £275,000 for submitting an inappropriate plan for 2008/2009.
Workers in legal jobs often deal with personal grievances and challenging situations requiring lots of documentation.
