Bonuses: Companies want ethical link
13/06/2008
The majority of European companies want to see bonuses linked to ethical behaviour.
Integrity Interactive Europe surveyed 100 managers and found only one in five currently link ethical awareness with employee rewards.
Its 2008 European Corporate Integrity Survey revealed 55 per cent wanted to see rewards for "those companies that can demonstrate good corporate governance and effective ethics and compliance programmes".
"Making ethical behaviour 'pay' removes any potential conflict of interest," added president, Paul Basson.
The report also revealed that bribery has risen up the agenda of European compliance officers. It is now the issue of most concern although sentences for offenders were considered "too lenient".
Interestingly, when asked to comment on the long jail terms awarded to Enron and WorldCom chief executives, bosses considered the sentences, "too severe".
