Good filing: Crucial in fighting legal claims

Good filing and documentation management is vital if firms want to avoid future legal costs, MTA Solicitors told byestart.co.uk.

The firm stressed employers must maintain documentation for all employees and protect itself from paying unnecessary damages incurred in unfair dismissal claims.

"The national increase in the number of employment tribunals is a warning to companies that they need to be fully prepared for possible claims," it commented.

Employers should seek advice from solicitors, take legal advice when dismissing workers and follow the correct disciplinary procedures.

MTA advised even workers in legal jobs should "consult with an employment lawyer to ensure that the company procedure complies with legislation".

The government's latest employment statistics show an increase in both the number of people in employment and the employment rate.
