Govt says: 'Get your back-up checked'
07/04/2008
Business needs to check its data back-ups and test its disaster recovery plans, new government-backed research has advised.
The 2008 Information Security Breaches Survey carried out by a consortium, led by PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP has revealed 99 per cent of firms back up critical data but 28 per cent do not have emergency plans in place.
"The number of companies with a disaster recovery plan has gone up," noted PwC partner, Chris Potter. "However, experience shows that plans are only effective if regularly tested."
The study found 72 per cent of all UK businesses have a scheme ready to action, up from 58 per cent two years ago, although almost half have not been recently tested.
Legal jobs and secretarial jobs create a vast amount of statistics and workers across industry are now familiar with saving and storing electronic data.
Many firms have now introduced a further layer of data security the offline back-up.
