Govt helps people in legal jobs understand law changes

31/03/2008

The government is to distribute more than 20,000 leaflets to help accountants and solicitors understand new law changes.

The Companies Act 2006 is being phased in over three years with the next range of measures coming into force in April.

Gareth Thomas, the business minister, said: "The business world doesn't stand still and the law is changing to reflect this."

"The Companies Act 2006 provides a real step forward in the reform and modernisation of company law."

Changes to the law will create a single set of regulations, reduce the time they have to file their accounts to nine months and remove the need for them to have a company secretary.

Mr Thomas said the de-regulatory measures would "make the UK an even more attractive place to invest and do business".

Already in place are changes, which removed the requirement to have an annual general meeting and allowed companies to use more electronic communications.
