Workers want bosses to go green

25/03/2008

British workers want their employers to do more to fight climate change, according to a new report.

The British Safety Council's (BSC) 'Safe and Sound?' survey has revealed two out of three employees think the companies they work for should do more.

Brian Nimick, chief executive, said: "Employers and their staff need to work together to ensure that, in 50 years’ time, we have a sustainable environment and we are healthy enough and safe enough to enjoy it."

In addition, 75 per cent of employers with businesses of more than 250 employees admitted their companies could do more to reduce their environmental impact.

The survey assessed if workers felt they were well informed about health and safety issues. It found that 15 per cent of workers in London were "unclear about their legal duties to keep safe at work".

Health and safety training is normally provided by employers when they familiarise new employees with their working environment.
