Employers should 'keep it fair'
04/02/2008
Employers need to recruit more workers from ethnic minorities, the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) has advised.
Responding to the publication of the National Audit Office's (NAO) report, which showed a significant gap in recruitment, it said that temporary work played a significant role in helping under-represented groups into careers.
The NAO study found the employment rate is 74 per cent for the general population but only 60 per cent for ethnic minorities.
Tom Hadley, the REC's director of external relations is keen to see progress "in an area that has too often been characterised by good intentions and not enough action".
"This is a real opportunity for the recruitment industry to take a lead in actually delivering real change," he said.
According to the REC, 20 per cent of agency workers come from ethnic backgrounds, which is more than the national average.
