Govt says employ UK workers first

The government has said firms have to do more to recruit British workers before they resort to advertising for overseas talent.

By tightening the resident labour market test, firms now have to do more to advertise their vacant positions.

Under new guidance companies must now advertise the vacant post for two weeks in the Jobcentre and by using one other agreed method.

JobCentre Plus is the government's office where people go to find out about training and even pick up jobs.

The UK has followed Australia in adopting a points-based system as it hopes to only recruit those people looking for work.

Tasked with securing UK's borders, the country's immigration department carries out checks on people who are suspected of entering the land illegally.

A spokesperson for the department told the BBC: "Those who don't play by the rules are sent home."ADNFCR-1196-ID-19163085-ADNFCR
