Law firm asks trainees to delay careers
14/04/2009

Linklaters law firm is offering trainees cash to defer their starting date with the company.
It is intended that 15 new employees, scheduled to begin their careers in either September or March 2010, should delay taking their jobs by either six or 12 months.
A 12-month deferral will earn a cash payment of £10,000 while £5,000 will be paid to those who push back their start date by six months.
All of the deferrals will be voluntary with Simon Firth, trainee development partner at the firm, telling the Lawyer: "We've done quite well on numbers so far because we dropped our recruitment numbers slightly last year.
"So the low numbers will mean that this will be done on a first come first served basis."
Clifford Chance last month confirmed that it would be operating a similar scheme.
Linklaters has 26 offices based in 19 countries across the world including London, Berlin and New York.
