CIPD says govt should support equal pay reviews
23/01/2009

The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) has said the government should make public the case for equal pay reviews.
The organisation wants businesses to be made more aware of the benefits of conducting the assessments.
"There are clear business benefits to conducting equal pay reviews, but there is a lack of understanding among employers as to what those benefits are," Charles Cotton, the CIPD's reward adviser told Personnel Today.
The House of Lords is currently hearing the second reading of the Equal Pay and Flexible Working Bill.
If passed, this would force employers who had not adopted principles of equal pay to organise a review and then publish its findings.
Mr Cotton said workers who felt they had been treated fairly, would be more likely to act as "powerful advocates and motivated contributors to the future success of their companies".
Currently, workers are protected by the Equal Pay Act, which makes it illegal to discriminate between men and women in terms of their pay.
