CIPD supports reducing paternity leave

The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) has said it supports the government's decision to review planned paternity leave arrangements, People Management Online has reported.

Concerned that the proposed arrangements will create "bureaucratic burdens", the organisation's employee relations adviser Mike Emmot said any proposals must work for businesses.

Mr Emmot explained: "The demographics of the workplace are changing. A greater proportion of women are now working and this trend is set to continue."

Changes from an earlier decision could become "the straw that breaks the camel's back in a recession," he continued.

Employees who want to take paternity leave should give their employer written notice 15 weeks before the week their baby is due and declare how much time they intend to take off.ADNFCR-1196-ID-19196908-ADNFCR
